Systemin

Systemin is an 18-amino acid peptide hormone originally found in the leaves of tomato plants, as well as other plants in the Solanaceae family. Systemin increases expression of defense-related genes and gene products. Systemin regulates synthesis of jasmonic acid, which modulates wound-induced synthesis of protease inhibitors. Systemin may also bind DNA.
