Diosmin

Diosmin is a flavone found in Teucrium that exhibits neuroprotective, cardioprotective, antioxidative, anti-hyperlipidemic, anticancer, chemopreventive, and anti-inflammatory activities. Diosmin alleviates neurological deficits, decreases infarct volume, and upregulates expression of pJAK2, pSTAT3, and Bcl-2 in animal models of cerebral ischemia/reperfusion injury. Diosmin also acts as a radical scavenger and increases antioxidative enzyme activity, improving cardiac function in other animal models. In animal models of retinal ischemia/reperfusion, diosmin decreases retinal edema and extravasation. Additionally, diosmin decreases lipid peroxidation and increases HMG CoA reductase in animal models of myocardial infarction. This compound also inhibits proliferation of hepatocellular carcinoma cells and prevents 2-AAF-induced carcinogenesis in vivo.
